Athletics Speakers Bureau
UC Irvine Athletics is happy to provide speakers for local charitable, educational, and civic groups to provide insight on life as a student-athlete or collegiate level coach. Student-athletes are also available to run clinics, teach nutrition and healthy eating, and speak about the importance of higher education. UC Irvine Athletics has participated in events run by the Newport Sports Museum, the Central Orange Coast YMCA, and Irvine Unified School District.

To request an appearance by a student-athlete or coach, please contact Edie Gobel at egobel@uci.edu or call 949-824-7587.

Hospital Visits
In November of 2008, Children's Hospital of Orange County and the UC Irvine Medical Center formed a strategic affiliation to better serve children and families. The alliance will not only strengthen UCI's research and its education of future pediatricians, but it will also provide high-quality, comprehensive care for the patients of CHOC.

UC Irvine Athletics is proud to support this alliance and has sent athletes and coaches to Children's Hospital to visit with the patients and their families. Athletes from the UC Irvine baseball and women's volleyball teams have surprised patients with UCI gear and brightened their day. UC Irvine Athletics plans to continue to send athletes and coaches to CHOC in support of this new partnership.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day
In 2007, UC Irvine joined the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport by honoring their annual "Girls and Women in Sports Day." Each year, UC Irvine Athletics hosts a free clinic for girls on campus. The event started out small with just a few sports represented, including women's basketball, which offered complimentary admission to a home game to all those who participated in the clinic on that day. Since 2007, it has grown into an all day event, including sports like soccer, tennis, volleyball, golf, track and field, basketball and cheer!

Think Pink
Each year, UC Irvine Athletics, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and Susan G. Komen for the Cure team up to raise awareness of breast cancer research. Think Pink is an annual fundraiser that takes place at a UCI women's basketball game. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game and athletes support the cause by wearing pink ribbons on their jerseys and pink laces on their shoes. UC Irvine Athletics also holds and auction and raffle to raise funds for Susan G. Komen for the Cure Orange County.
