The UCI Junior Residential Camp principles are formed from the vast experience of Head Coaches of the Men's and Women's soccer teams George Kuntz and Scott Juniper. For many years these accomplished coaches have dedicated their efforts in offering a camp environment that is truly competitive through expert soccer instruction that fosters an enjoyable environment for players to fully develop their passion for the game. Throughout the years countless players have been exposed to camps lead by Coach Kuntz and Coach Juniper that have assisted in the player's development towards their goals of playing at the highest college levels, professionally, and for the national team. Kuntz and Juniper are dedicated to the highest standards in compiling their coaching staff. The coaching staff's backgrounds either meets or exceeds the expectations set by Kuntz and Juniper with their experiences at the high school, club, and collegiate levels. These coaches offer creative and challenging training sessions which provides for an extremely organized and well supervised camp community. The UCI Men's and Women's players also support the instruction and offer great examples both as players and as a person for young players to emulate.
Advanced Player Development
Dedication to responsibility and performance both on and off the field is the primary focus of the UCI Junior Residential Camp. The camper pool is divided by age and ability with appropriately coach to player ratio so the training concepts can be taught effectively. There is a heavy emphasis on individual techniques as well as tactical awareness of each player. Individual creativity is strongly encouraged by each staff member to keep each player confident and determined to discover success within the game. Typically the early training session is centered on technical concepts including dribbling, ball control, shooting, passing, etc. Then in the afternoon the focus turns to tactics within full-sided matches and tournaments. Routine activities for players at camp include film sessions as well as a series of lectures covering a variety of topics from nutrition to the psychology of the game with questions and answers. The advanced players will also be exposed and benefit from recruiting possibilities offered through our camp recruiting lecture and our network of college coaches who will be on staff for the UCI Junior Residential camp.
Specialized Goalkeeper Training
The goalkeeper is a key position and will be given specialized training with a well-rounded approach for the tactical, technical and psychological aspects of the position. Training and evaluation will be enhanced as goalkeepers are incorporated into group training activities with the field players. Match-related activities give the goalkeeper the opportunity to combine fundamental skills with tactical decision-making. Off the field learning continues with film sessions and Q&A sessions dedicated specifically to world-class goalkeeping.
