UC Irvine excelled across the seasons in 2008-09 as 10 Anteater teams finished in the nation's top 50.
UCI, which finished second in the Division I-AAA Directors' Cup, won a school-record five conference titles and had six Conference Athletes of the Year and four Conference Coaches of the Year.
The university honored 184 Big West Scholar-Athletes, bringing UCI’s total to 3,266 since 1983. For the year, UCI had 15 All-Americans, 73 all-conference honorees and 68 selections to academic all-conference teams. Men’s volleyball player Jon Steller was recognized as the University’s Lauds & Laurels Outstanding Athlete. UCI’s Big West Scholar-Athletes of the Year were women’s volleyball player Lauren Kellerman and baseball player Eric Pettis. Lauren Collins (women’s track & field) and Ben Orloff (baseball) were chosen as UCI’s Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
