Former UCI Student-Athlete Jerry Maras Qualifies for USGA Senior Amateur

IRVINE, Calif. --- Former UC Irvine basketball and baseball standout Jerry Maras earned a spot in the United States Golf Association Senior Amateur Championship that begins Saturday (Sept. 12) at Beverly Country Club in Chicago.

Maras qualified with a round of 73 at Spanish Trail Golf & Country Club in Las Vegas Aug. 11.

He ranks ninth in career rebounds (614) and 15th in points (1,212) while competing in basketball at UCI from 1971-75.

In baseball as a pitcher, he holds the single-season record for ERA (1.60 in 1973) and is third in career ERA (2.59) and ninth in wins (21).

Maras was a member of the Anteater baseball teams that won Division II national titles in 1973 and 1974.
