UCI/Scott Brooks Golf Invitational Presented By Irvine BMW A Big Win for Student-Athlete Scholarships
IRVINE, Calif. --- The UCI/Scott Brooks Golf Invitational presented by Irvine BMW more than doubled it previous year’s fundraising total by raising $40,000 for student-athlete scholarships at UC Irvine.
A volunteer planning committee comprised of UCI Athletics donors, alumni and friends were instrumental in bringing in participants, sponsors and private donations to support the tournament. Money raised from the annual event will be used to fund student-athlete scholarships across all 18 Division-I programs at UCI.
Tournament host, Scott Brooks greeted guests as they arrived and
spent the day out on the course visiting with each foursome and the
UCI head coaches and student-athletes stationed on each tee.
An outdoor cocktail reception and extensive silent auction followed
the conclusion of play. At the reception, participants were treated
to an entertaining question and answer session with Brooks, who
spoke about his scholarship to play basketball for the Anteaters
and how it provided him a wealth of opportunities which were
otherwise out of reach.
Brooks, a UCI alum, is head coach of the NBA’s Oklahoma City
Thunder. He received the Red Auerbach NBA Coach of the Year
Award for the 2009-10 season when he guided the Thunder to a 27-win
improvement from the previous season.
He has led Oklahoma City to the NBA playoffs each of the last two
seasons, including the Western Conference Final this past
season.
“I am very happy to be associated with this event to help
raise scholarship funds for the student-athletes at UCI,”
Brooks said. “I am, and always will be, an Anteater,
and will do anything I can to assist UCI Athletics and the
university. I encourage the community to participate in this
event and support the outstanding student-athletes at
UCI.” Brooks has already committed his support for the
2012 tournament.
