UC Irvine Hosts 6th Annual Shocktoberfest Celebration!
Irvine, Calif. --- On Friday, October 14, 2011, the Associated Students, University of California, Irvine (ASUCI) will host the 6th Annual Shocktoberfest celebration at the Bren Events Center. This event, which marks the official start of the 2011-12 basketball season, is the largest and most exciting Midnight Magic celebration on the west coast. This event is also the largest UC Irvine-hosted concert at the University.
The festivities begin at 5:30 pm with a Street Festival on Mesa Road featuring food, music, interactive booths, and special performances on the outdoor stage. The celebration moves inside for an hour-long “Midnight Magic” show, featuring the 2011-12 UC Irvine Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams.
Midnight Magic (often called Midnight Madness) is an annual event on college campuses that celebrates the first day the NCAA permits formal basketball practices. At UC Irvine, “Midnight Magic” will showcase both the Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs. Both teams will be introduced to fans, followed by a “battle of the sexes 3-point contest” and slam dunk contest. A concert, featuring current hip-hop artists, rounds-out the night inside the Bren Events Center. The party continues after the concert with Aftershock, a dance party on Mesa Road featuring live DJs.
This event is exclusively for the UC Irvine undergraduate student body. A limited number of tickets are available and UC Irvine undergraduate students must register online for tickets. Additionally, a limited number of tickets are available online for purchase by UC Irvine graduate students and UC Irvine undergraduate students for their guests. Please visit the official event site for more information, http://www.asuci.uci.edu/shocktoberfest/index.php.
Please note that the activities inside the Bren Events Center are closed to the general public. However, fans may participate in both the Street Festival (prior) and Aftershock (post) events, which will take place outside on Mesa Road. Parking is $10 per vehicle in the Mesa Parking Structure and must be accessed via the lower entrance.
The basketball portion of the show will be streamed live for free on both the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Facebook fan pages. Please see links below for access.
