Mike Izzi

Overseeing the overall management of UCI's 18-sport intercollegiate athletics program, UC Irvine has demonstrated extensive success under Izzi's leadership.
Over the past three years, UC Irvine has continued to stand out as one of the nation's top mid-major athletic programs, earning a Top-5 finish in NACDA's Division I-AAA Directors' Cup Standings each of those years.
During the 2009-10 year, five UCI coaches were named Conference Coach of the Year, tying a school record, and five of the university's athletic teams ended the year ranked in the nation's Top 25.
During the 2008-09 year, 10 Anteater teams finished in the nation's Top 50. UCI won a school-record five conference titles and men's volleyball won its second NCAA title in the past three seasons. Men's volleyball and baseball were both ranked No. 1 in the country during the spring of 2009, marking the first time UCI had two top-ranked teams at the same time.
Under Izzi's guidance UC Irvine has becoming more visible on the national stage by hosting postseason events including the 2008 Men's Volleyball NCAA Championship, an NCAA baseball regional in 2009 and an NCAA men's soccer second-round game in 2008.
Izzi is a member of the Compliance Committee for the Big West Conference. He also serves as a voting member of the Lott Trophy, an award given to college football's Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year.
Prior to his arrival at UC Irvine, Izzi spent 16 years at Stanford University, most recently serving as associate athletic director for sports administration and development. Izzi was the primary supervisor for several sports and led one of the most successful athletic fundraising efforts in college sports. He implemented fund-raising strategies which led to over $30 million in renovations to Maples Pavilion, over $100 million in renovations to Stanford Stadium, $70 million in scholarships endowments, and the endowment of several staff positions.
Izzi received his bachelor's in sociology from UCLA in 1984. He competed in track and field for the Bruins and ranks fifth all-time at UCLA in the javelin throw with a mark of 251-11 set in 1983.
Izzi has two sons, Weston and Conrad, and a daughter, McKenna.
