UC Irvine A.D. Mike Izzi Signs Contract Extension
IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine Athletic Director
Mike Izzi has signed a contract extension through 2016.
Izzi was named UCI’s A.D. in December 2007 after previously
serving 16 years in athletic administration at Stanford
University.
Under his leadership, UCI Athletics has finished in the top five of
the Learfield Sports Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy competition
each of the last four years.
He also oversaw the department’s shoe and apparel deal with
adidas, marking the first time that UCI
intercollegiate athletics programs have been included in a single,
all-encompassing apparel agreement.
During Izzi’s tenure, 22 Anteater teams have advanced to NCAA
postseason play, including men’s volleyball that won the 2009
NCAA title. Baseball has competed in the NCAA postseason each
of the last four seasons, including two Super
Regionals. Men’s soccer has participated in
three NCAA Tournaments, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2008,
and women’s soccer has moved onto the past two NCAA tourneys,
including the Sweet 16 in 2010.
The Anteaters have won 13 conference regular-season titles and
eight Big West Conference Tournament championships since 2008.
UCI has had 608 conference scholar-athletes, 271 all-conference
honorees and 52 All-Americans in the past four years.
