Nick Scandone Nominated For Rolex Yachtsman of the Year

Irvine, Calif. -- Former UC Irvine All-American Nick Scandone is nominated for the US SAILING's 2008 Rolex Yachtsman of the Year.
Scandone and his teammate Maureen McKinnon-Tucker, earned a gold medal in the SKUD-18 class at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games.
Established in 1961 by US SAILING and sponsored by Rolex Watch, U.S.A. since 1980, the annual presentation of US SAILING's Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year awards are widely regarded as the sport's ultimate recognition of an individual’s outstanding on-the-water achievements for the calendar year. Over its history the coveted award has been presented to 36 men and 32 women, including Scandone in 2005.
Other nominees including 505 East Coast and Midwinter Champion Ethan Bixby; J/22 World Champion Greg Fisher; Etchells World Champion Bill Hardesty; Sunfish World Champion Paul Foerster; TP52 World Champion Terry Hutchinson; Finn Olympic Silver Medalist Zach Railey; Newport Bermuda Race winner Peter Rebovich; and Lightning North American Champion Allan Terhune.
The winners will be announced in January and honored on February 27, 2009, during a luncheon at the New York Yacht Club.
