Irvine, Calif. -- Former UC Irvine All-American sailor Nick Scandone was named the captain of the U.S. Sailing Paralympic Team which begins competition in Beijing next week.

Scandone was chosen by a vote of his U.S. sailing teammates. He will compete in the new double-handed SKUD-18 event with Maureen McKinnon-Tucker (Marblehead, Mass.).

Racing begins Monday (Sept. 8). Scandone is coached by UCI head coach Mike Pinckney.
