Nick Scandone Named U.S. Flagbearer At Paralympics; Leads After First Day of Racing

Irvine, Calif. -- Former UC Irvine All-American Nick Scandone was named the United States flagbearer at the Paralympics Opening Ceremonies in Beijing, China. Scandone, who was choosen the team captain for the U.S. sailing team, was selected as the flagbearer by his U.S. paralympic peers. Scandone and crew Maureen McKinnon-Tucker began the first day of competition in first-place in the SKUD-18 class. The duo recorded a a first and second place finish in the first two races to end the day in the top position. Racing continues through Saturday (Sept. 13).
