Wyoming Sweeps UC Irvine/Ayres Distance Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. - The Wyoming men and women won the UC Irvine/Ayres Hotels Distance Invitational Saturday afternoon at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
The Cowgirls topped second place UCI with 183 points, the ‘Eaters had 107. The Cowboys won with 308 points besting the second place Anteaters with 227 points. The Wyoming men previously won the meet in 1995 and 2002.
Aimee Stinson of Wyoming won both the 500 free (5:00.44) and the 1650 free (17:20.72). Michaela Ahlin of Washington State won the 400 IM with a time of 4:28.73. Lauren Hall of UCLA won the 1000 free with her time of 10:06.81. UCI sophomore Stephanie Gabert (Newport Beach/Arizona) took second in the 1650 with a time of 17:43.08 for UCI’s top finish of the meet.
On the men’s side, Matt Sulkevich of Cal State Northridge won the 1000 free with his time of 10:06.48. Marshall Dilworth of Wyoming continued his wins from the Sprint Invite as he won the 400 IM with a time of 4:10.77. Matt Urich of Wyoming won the 500 free (4:41.67) and Brett Henehan of Wyoming won the 1650 free (16:21.90). Sophomore Garrett Thompson in the 1000 free (10:28.31) and junior Chris Rosales in the 1000 free (10:28.31) each took second place for the ‘Eaters.
The UC Irvine/Ayres Invitationals conclude Sunday with the Relay and Diving Invitationals each starting at 10:00 a.m. at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
