Anteater Men and Women in Fifth at Big West Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's and women's swimming & diving teams are each in fifth place following the first night of competition at the Big West Conference Championships at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool.
The men's 200 medley relay narrowly missed winning the event as they finished with a time of 1:27.81, which was 0.14 seconds behind UC Santa Barbara's winning time. Freshman Julian Lawrence (La Cañada HS) had UCI's best finish in the 1000 free with his ninth place finish and time of 9:33.17. The men finished the night with a fifth place finish in the 800 free relay (6:52.03).
The UCI women finished fourth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.14. Sophomore Ann Tsuchiya (South Pasadena/Mayfield HS) finished 9th in the 1000 free 10:29.79 for UCI's top finish. The 'Eaters ended the night with a fifth place finish in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:37.59.
The Big West Championships continue Thursday with prelims starting at 10:30 a.m. and finals at 6:00 p.m. at Belmont Plaza.
