UC Irvine Swimmers Compete At U.S. Olympic Trials

Three current and two former Anteaters try to make U.S. Olympic team

Irvine, Calif. -- UC Irvine will be well represented at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials that begin this Sunday (June 29) and continue through July 6 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Current swimmers Lyndsay DePaul, Chris Rosales and Randall Tom, plus former Anteaters Eddie Erazo and Chelsea Nagata will compete for spots on the U.S. Olympic swim team that will travel to Beijing, China for the 2008 Olympic Games beginning August 8.

Nagata, a two-time All-American, will compete in the 100-meter butterfly while DePaul, a two-time competitor at the NCAA Championships, has qualified for six events (100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, 200 individual medley, 400 individual medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle).

On the men's side, Erazo, the 2008 Big West Conference Male Swimmer of the Year, will compete in the 200 butterfly. Rosales, UCI's team captain, will participate in the 100 breaststroke and Tom will swim in the 100 butterfly. Randall Tom was the 2007 Big West Swimmer of the Year and a member of the United States 2008 Short Course World Championship team.
