DePaul earns silver medal in 200 fly, 400 IM at US Open in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Lyndsay DePaul, a junior-to-be at UC Irvine, has won two silver medals at the 2008 U.S. Open at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

DePaul swam a time of 2:09.66 in the 200 fly Tuesday to earn the silver medal. Mary DeScenza won the event with a time of 2:07.26.

The top American finisher in each event who will be enrolled as a full-time university student through January 1, 2009 will qualify to represent the United States at the 2009 World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia. DeScenza finished her collegiate career at Georgia in 2006, giving DePaul the opportunity.

DePaul won a second silver medal Wednesday in the 400 IM as she swam a time of 4:45.40. Ava Ohlgren won the event with a time of 4:43.30. Ohlgren will be a junior at Auburn in the fall and will join DePaul on the World University Games team.

DePaul finished 18th in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.03. She swam a time of 2:04.94 in the 200 free to finish 23rd. DePaul took fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.92.

The U.S. Open was held in a Long Course Meters format.
