Anteaters Host Nike Cup

ANTEATERS HOST NIKE CUP: The UC Irvine men’s and women’s swimming teams will host the 2008 Nike Cup Thursday through Saturday at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach. Prelims begin at 9:00 a.m. each day with finals at 6:00 p.m. at Belmont. A total of 22 women’s teams and 15 men’s teams will be competing at the three day event.
The Division I women’s field is UC Irvine, BYU, Air Force, Loyola Marymount, Nevada, New Mexico, Cal State Northridge, Pepperdine, Pacific, San Jose State, San Diego, Cal State Bakersfield and UNLV. On the men’s side, UC Irvine, Air Force, BYU, UNLV, Cal State Northridge, Cal State Bakersfield and Pacific.
TOP RETURNERS: The Anteater teams each have a former Big West Athlete of the Year returning this season. Junior Lyndsay DePaul (Orange/Villa Park HS) returns for the women’s side after her second straight trip to the NCAA Championships. Senior Randall Tom (Wailuku, Hawaii/Seabury Hall) returns after redshirting last season. Tom was the 2007 Big West Athlete of the Year and finished ninth in the 100 fly at the 2007 NCAA Championships. The ‘Eater men also return sophomore diver Miles Smith (Carmichael/Capital Christian HS) who won both Big West diving titles as a freshman in 2008.
