UC Irvine Has 2 Regional Qualifiers in Steeplechase

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine had two NCAA-regional qualifiers in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday night in day one of the Collegiate Classic at Anteater Stadium. In the men's race, senior Sky Johnston won the event with a time of 8:59.48 for the eighth-fastest time in school history as he qualified for the NCAA West Regional May 30-31 at Cal State Northridge. Senior Tim Hearst finished second in Friday's race with a time of 9:14.47. In the women's steeplechase, junior Lauren Chramosta placed third in 10:49.92 to qualify for the regional as she ran the second-fastest time in UCI history behind Jenny Liou's time of 10:47.01 set in 2003. Junior Gabriela Santana finished second in the 3,000 meters Friday night with a time of 9:57.03. Sophomore Alisha Misiata was fourth in the hammer throw with a 152-1. The Collegiate Classic continues Saturday with field events starting at 10:30 a.m. and the first track event at 1:00 p.m. Final results Saturday will be posted at www.flashresults.com/flashwest
