UC Irvine Posts Strong Showings at Spring Break Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. --- Freshman Charles Jock ran the fastest 800 meters by a UCI runner in 21 years at the Spring Break Invitational Saturday at Anteater Stadium.

Jock won the 800 in 1:49.18 for the fourth-best time in Anteater history and fastest since Rod Brower ran 1:48.65 in 1988.

In other men's action Saturday, Lee Darling won the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.05 and Napoleon Greene was first in the 400-meter hurdles in 52.89.

Oliver Plattner placed second in the 200 meters with a Big West-qualifying time of 21.89 and Rex Nelson was second in the 1500 meters (3:57.25).

Julian Eison tied for second in the high jump with an NCAA regional-qualifying mark of 6-10 3/4 and Thomas Hamm tied for second in the pole vault at 14-7 ¼.

Chris Carson finished third in the 100 meters in 11.01 with Joe Pearson (11.08) and Hermes Ongsansoy (11.09) placing fifth and sixth.

Jimmy Kearney was fourth in the discus at 154-3 and Matt Lahti placed sixth at 151-7.

Freshman Golde Ibia won the women's 100-meter hurdles in 14.11 for the third-best mark in UCI history and she placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 63.41.

Freshman Amber Middleton finished fifth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.57, 10th-fastest on the school's career list.

Freshman Sanmisola George placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 25.23.

Junior Alisha Misiaita won the shot put with a mark of 49-11 ¼ and she was third in the discus at 147-1 with Amber Sangster finishing fourth at 141-1.

Madeline Leduc finished third in the triple jump at 37-0 ¼ followed by teammates Fritzie Mercado (36-3 ½) and Natalie Nguyen (36-1 ¼).

Kelsi Sando was third in the high jump at 5-3 and Jenny Lee finished third in the javelin throw with a mark of 127-2.

UCI competes in the Cal/Nevada Championships at UCLA Friday and Saturday and also will have competitors at the Stanford Invitational on the same days.
