WALNUT, Calif. --- UC Irvine turned in several strong performances Thursday in the first day of competition at the Mt. SAC Relays.

Tim Hearst just missed the NCAA regional-qualifying time of 9:07.00 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he placed fifth in 9:07.20. Greg Thompson finished 14th in his section of the steeplechase in 9:50.48.

Samantha Costantini finished second in her section of the 1500 meters with a time of 4:33.28.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Kendall Bruton was 12th (11:27.01), Megan Fairley 14th (11:34.73), Meryl Follosco 16th (11:39.22) and Amber Gordon 17th (11:44.42).

Candice Proctor placed 18th in her section of the 5,000 meters in 17:23.12. Erinn Kim finished 19th in her section of the 5,000 with a time of 17:48.33 while Gabriela Santana was 23rd in 17:55.23.
