UCI's Kendall Bruton Qualifies for NCAA West Regional in Steeplechase

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine senior Kendall Bruton qualified for the NCAA West Regional in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Saturday night at the Asics/Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium.
Bruton finished third in the event with a time of 10:44.75, the second-fastest time in UCI history and a regional-qualifying time by nearly six seconds. She is the eighth Anteater student-athlete this season to qualify for the regional in Eugene, Ore., May 29-30.
UCI junior Lauren Collins placed third in the long jump at 19-4 ¼ for the third-best mark in school history. Senior Natasha Wardley was ninth at 18-8 ½.
Gabriela Santana finished fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:39.23 and Erinn Kim was eighth in 17:53.63.
Jenny Lee (122-7) and Alisha Misiaita (119-3) finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the javelin throw.
UCI senior Nick Mosey finished third in the 5,000 meters Saturday night with a time of 14:51.82 and Brett Matejka was 10th in 15:24.64.
Andy Burich placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:35.43 to qualify for the Big West Conference Championships at UCI May 15-16. Rory Mahony was eighth in 9:45.41 and Chris Proffitt ninth in 10:00.68.
Matt Lahti finished fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 187-8 and Jimmy Kearney was sixth at 178-7 to improve on his sixth-best mark in UCI history.
Nicholas Roberts placed fifth in the javelin throw with a toss of 184-1.
The meet resumes Sunday with field events beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the first track event at 12:00 p.m.
