UCI's Jock, Misiaita Win Events at Asics/Steve Scott Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. --- Freshman Charles Jock and junior Alisha Misiaita were individual winners for UC Irvine at the Asics/Steve Scott Invitational that concluded Sunday at Anteater Stadium.

Jock ran the fastest 800 meters by a UCI runner in 21 years for the second time this season in winning the event with a time of 1:48.73 that moves him to third all-time at the university. Steve Scott is the UCI record-holder (1:47.6 in 1978) and Rod Brower ran 1:48.65 in 1988.

Jock also anchored the winning 4x400-meter relay that included teammates Oliver Plattner, George Hernandez and Tim Murphy. UCI was in fourth place when Jock received the baton but he took the lead down the final straightaway as the Anteaters placed first in 3:13.36.

Misiaita won the shot put with a mark of 46-10 ¼.

Other top-five performances for the women's team were by Shelby Pock, who was fourth in the 1500 meters in 4:32.68 and Lauren Collins, who finished fourth in the high jump at 5-10 ¾.

Lauren Collins anchored UCI's 4x400 relay that finished first in a season-best 3:46.83. Other relay members were Kelly Collins, Golde Ibia and Stephanie Awanyai.

Top-five showings by the Anteater men's team included Colin Hacker with a second-place finish in the 1500 meters (3:50.52), Julian Eison placing third in the high jump (6-8 ¾), Tim Murphy with a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters (1:52.14), and Plattner (48.37) and Hernandez (48.40) finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400 meters.

UCI hosts the Big West Conference Multi-Event Championships Friday and Saturday, and the Big West Track & Field Championships May 15-16.
