Lasalle Mitchell in 9th Place at Big West Decathlon

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine sophomore Lasalle Mitchell is in ninth place after Friday's five events in the decathlon of the Big West Conference Multi-Event Championships at Anteater Stadium.
Mitchell scored 3,286 points on the first day of competition. He had marks of 11.40 in the 100 meters, 23-2 ¾ in the long jump, 37-2 ¼ in the shot put, 5-0 ¼ in the high jump and 52.53 in the 400 meters.
Robert Robinson of Cal State Northridge, the runner-up in the decathlon the previous two years, is leading with a total of 3,909 points.
Cal Poly's Corbin Duer is second with 3,751 and Lance Gonzales of Cal State Northridge is third with 3,747.
The final five events are Saturday, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Barbara Nwaba of UC Santa Barbara leads the Big West heptathlon with 3,250 points after four events Friday.
Cal State Northridge's Sherrina Lofton is second with 3,228 points and Taylor O'Connor of Long Beach State is third with 2,928.
The final three events will be contested Saturday, starting at 1:00 p.m.
