NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- UC Irvine's Trent Richert is in fifth place after the first day of the decathlon in the Big West Conference Multi-Event Championships at Cal State Northridge's Matador Track Complex.

Richert scored 3,429 points in Friday's five events. The Anteaters' Kyle Peterson is in seventh place with 3,401 points and Eric Nyberg is 10th with 3,110.

Chris Richardson of Long Beach State leads with a total of 3,988 points.

Richert's marks Friday were 11.53 in the 100 meters, 22-0 ¼ in the long jump, 38-0 in the shot put, 5-10 ¾ in the high jump and 51.90 in the 400 meters.

Peterson recorded marks of 11.26 in the 100 meters, 20-7 ¾ in the long jump, 37-11 ¼ in the shot put, 6-1 ¼ in the high jump and 52.85 in the 400 meters.

Nyberg's marks were 11.92 in the 100, 21-1 ¼ in the long jump, 33-4 ¾ in the shot put, 6-2 ¼ in the high jump and 55.98 in the 400.

The final five events are scheduled for Saturday.
