Julian Eison Wins High Jump at Big West Championships

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- UC Irvine junior Julian Eison placed first in the high jump with a mark of 6-10 3/4 at the Big West Conference Track & Field Championships Friday in Northridge.

UCI's Jon Wratten finished second, also at 6-10 3/4, while Ryan Hershey was sixth at 6-6 3/4.

Kendall Bruton placed third in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:03.80 as she improved on her No. 2 time in Anteater history. Tim Hearst finished third in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:07.32.

In the women's 10,000 meters, Erinn Kim finished fourth (36:53.29) and Candice Proctor was fifth (37:02.61).

Ashlee Marshell placed eighth in the women's long jump at 18-9 1/4 for the ninth-best mark in UCI history. Teammate Natasha Wardley finished ninth at 18-8.

Napoleon Greene was the fastest qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles preliminaries with a time of 52.30 for the seventh-fastest time in school history.

Freshman Tim Murphy led three UCI qualifiers in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:50.76 in the prelims.

UC Santa Barbara leads the men's competition with 70 1/2 points after Friday's action and UCI is fourth with 35. Cal State Northridge leads the women's team race with 75 points and UCI is fifth at 26.

The conference meet concludes Saturday at Cal State Northridge's Matador Track Complex.
