2 More School Records Fall for UC Irvine at Big West Championships

IRVINE, Calif. --- Two more school records fell for UC Irvine Saturday during the final day of competition of the Big West Conference Track & Field Championships at Anteater Stadium.

Junior Lauren Collins broke her own record in winning the high jump with a mark of 6-1 ¼. Her previous best was 6-0 set earlier this season.

Freshman Golde Ibia eclipsed her own UCI record in the 100-meter hurdles as she finished third in 13.72, passing her previous mark of 13.88 set in Friday's preliminaries. Ibia also finished third in the 400-meter hurdles final Saturday with a time of 62.06, which ranks No. 8 all-time at UCI.  Freshman Kelly Collins placed seventh in the 400 hurdles in 64.04.

Junior Alisha Misiaita placed second in the shot put with a mark of 51-6 ¼.

Senior Samantha Costantini picked up a pair of fifth-place finishes Saturday - in the 800 meters (2:13.78) and 1500 meters (4:31.21). Lauren Chramosta was sixth (4:35.14) and Chloe Fata seventh (4:37.52) to also earn points in the 1500.

Breeanca Fleming finished sixth in the 100 meters (12.08), Amber Middleton was seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (14.72) while Gabriela Santana (17:21.79) and Laura Olvera (17:22.73) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 5,000 meters. Madeline Leduc finished seventh in the triple jump at 39-0 1/2.

The Anteaters finished fourth in both the 4x100 relay (46.94) and the 4x400 relay (3:46.83).

UCI finished sixth in the team competition with 80.50 points as Cal State Northridge won its fourth consecutive women's team title with 198 points.

In the men's competition, freshman Charles Jock finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.87 in a duel with UC Santa Barbara's Ryan Martin that was decided by two-hundredths of a second.

Jock anchored UCI's winning 4x400 relay that won in 3:10.22 and earned an automatic berth in the NCAA West Regional at Eugene, Ore., May 29-30. The first three legs of the relay were Oliver Plattner, George Hernandez and Tim Murphy.

Plattner finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 47.87 while Hernandez was sixth in 48.93. Napoleon Greene's time of 52.73 in the 400-meter hurdles was good for third place.

Murphy finished sixth in the 800 meters (1:52.86) while Joe Pearson placed seventh in the 100 meters (10.93) and eighth in the 200 meters (21.88). Nick Mosey was seventh in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:37.35.

The UCI men's team finished seventh with 62.50 points as Cal State Northridge also won that title with 176.50 points.

UCI has 12 men's and women's athletes who have earned a spot in the West Regional later this month at Eugene.
