UC Irvine Hosts Big West Conference Multi-Event Championships This Weekend

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine hosts the 2009 Big West Conference Multi-Event Championships Friday and Saturday (May 8-9) at Anteater Stadium.
The decathlon starts at 2:00 p.m. Friday with the first heptathlon event at 2:30 p.m.
Decathlon action resumes at 11:00 a.m. Saturday and the heptathlon at 1:00 p.m.
Admission will be free this weekend.
UCI sophomore Lasalle Mitchell will compete in the decathlon. He scored 5,445 points at the Northridge Spring Break Open in March.
Junior Lauren Collins, a redshirt last year and the 2007 conference heptathlon champion, is not entered this weekend but she plans to compete in multiple events at the Big West Track & Field Championships May 15-16 at Anteater Stadium.
This weekend's decathlon field features Cal Poly's James Nunno, the 2007 conference champion, and Cal State Northridge's Robert Robinson, the runner-up in 2007 and 2008.
Shelese Ruffin of Cal State Northridge placed third in last year's Big West heptathlon.
