Charles Jock Named Big West Athlete of Week in Men's Track

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine freshman Charles Jock has been named the Big West Conference Athlete of the Week in men's track for the second time this season.

Jock won the 800 meters at last Sunday's Asics/Steve Scott Invitational with a time of 1:48.73 that ranks third all-time at UCI. It marked the second time this year that Jock ran the fastest 800 meters by an Anteater runner in 21 years as he closes in on Steve Scott's school record of 1:47.6 set in 1978. Rod Brower ran 1:48.65 in 1988 to rank No. 2 on the UCI career list.

Jock's 800 time currently ranks 11th in NCAA Division I this season.

Jock (San Diego/Mission Bay HS) also anchored the first-place 4x400 relay that recorded a season-best time of 3:13.36 on Sunday.

This is the eighth time in 2009 that UCI has had a Big West Athlete of the Week in track and field.

UCI hosts the Big West Multi-Event Championships Friday and Saturday at Anteater Stadium. The Big West Track & Field Championships will be also be at Anteater Stadium May 15-16.
