UC Irvine Sends 12 to NCAA West Regional This Weekend

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine has a school-record 12 athletes competing this weekend at the NCAA Track & Field West Regional in Eugene, Ore.
Action runs Friday and Saturday (May 29-30) at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus. The top five finishers in each individual event and the top three relays will qualify for the NCAA Championships at Fayetteville, Ark., June 10-13.
Competing Friday for UCI will be senior Julian Eison in the high jump at 2:45 p.m., junior Colin Hacker in the 1500-meter preliminaries at 3:35 p.m., freshman Golde Ibia in the 100-meter hurdles prelims at 3:55 p.m. and freshman Charles Jock in the 800-meter prelims at 5:40 p.m.
Eison tied for the No. 2 mark in Anteater history at 7-0 ½ in winning the high jump at the Cal/Nevada Championships (Mar. 28) and the Mt. SAC Relays (Apr. 17).
Hacker ran the ninth-best time (3:47.70) in UCI history in the 1500 at the Occidental College Invitational May 9.
Ibia has the school record of 13.72 in the 100 hurdles that she ran at the Big West Championships May 16.
Jock's 800 time of 1:48.73 is third-best in UCI history as he won the event at the Asics/Steve Scott Invitational May 3.
All three runners will compete in finals Saturday should they advance out of the prelims.
Other UCI athletes competing Saturday are junior Lauren Collins in the high jump at 12:30 p.m., junior Alisha Misiaita in the shot put at 1:05 p.m., junior Matt Lahti in the hammer throw at 2:20 p.m., seniors Lauren Chramosta and Kendall Bruton in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 3:45 p.m. and the men's 4x400 relay of senior Oliver Plattner, junior George Hernandez, junior Tim Murphy and Jock at 4:50 p.m.
Collins broke her own school record in winning the high jump at the Big West Championships May 16 with a mark of 6-1 ¼.
Misiaita set a new UCI record in finishing first in the shot put with a mark of 51-9 ¾ at the Cal/Nevada Championships Mar. 29.
Lahti ranks third all-time at UCI in the hammer throw with a mark of 203-0 in winning the event at the Big West Challenge Cup Apr. 10.
Chramosta is the school-record holder in the steeplechase with a time of 10:36.39 in finishing third at the Big West Championships May 15.
Bruton ranks second in the steeplechase on the UCI career list with a time of 10:44.75 that she recorded in a third-place finish at the Asics/Steve Scott Invitational May 2.
The men's 4x400 relay advanced to the regional after winning the event at the Big West Championships May 16 with a time of 3:10.22.
The previous high number of athletes that UCI had sent to regional competition was nine in 2003 and 2004.
