UCI Trio Prepares for NCAA Championships

THREE ADVANCE TO SACRAMENTO: UC Irvine will have three competitors at the NCAA Track & Field Championships in Sacramento June 6-9.
UCI's trio includes junior Julian Eison (high jump), senior Ricky Barnes (1500 meters) and sophomore Lauren Collins (heptathlon).
Eison qualified with a fifth-place finish of 6-11 in the high jump at the NCAA West Regional in Eugene, Ore., last weekend.
Barnes, who finished sixth in the 1500 meters at the regional (3:46.71), received an at-large berth to the national meet based on his time of 3:42.57 recorded at the Big West Conference Championships May 12.
Collins posted an NCAA automatic-qualifying total of 5,512 points in the heptathlon while winning the Big West title May 5-6. Collins finished ninth in the high jump (5-7 ¼) at the West Regional.
In other regional action for UCI competitors, senior Jon Wratten placed 11th in the high jump at 6-9. Junior Tim Hearst finished 17th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:11.04 and junior Sky Johnston was 19th in 9:16.14.
Freshman Alisha Misiata placed 21st in the women's shot put with a mark of 45-5 ¼.
Freshman Napoleon Greene had a time of 55.70 in the prelims of the 400-meter hurdles and did not advance to the final.
