Sky Johnston Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

UCI senior qualified for NCAA West Regional in steeplechase

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine senior Sky Johnston has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII second team for track and field/cross country.

In order to be eligible for the award a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career and must be at least a sophomore academically and have completed at least one full year at their current school. Voting is conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Johnston qualified for this season's NCAA West Regional in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:59.48 to win the event at UCI's Collegiate Classic Mar. 21. That mark ranks eighth all-time at UCI.

Johnston, a graduate student in history, finished third in the steeplechase (9:14.38) and seventh in the 5,000 meters (15:19.02) at the Big West Conference Track & Field Championships in May.
