Charles Jock Earns All-America Honors

June 14, 2010

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine sophomore Charles Jock has been named a 2010 All-American by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Jock broke UCI's record in the 800 meters four times this season. He initially broke three-time Olympian Steve Scott's school mark at the Cal/Nevada Championships in March. The record fell again at the Big West Conference Championships, the NCAA West Regional, and in the semifinals (1:46.17) last week at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.

He becomes UCI's first male All-American in track and field since Mike Beerer (hammer throw) in 2006, and the Anteaters' first on the track since Richard Graves (5,000 meters) in 1988.

Jock, the Big West Athlete of the Year in men's track, will compete in the USA Championships June 23-27 at Des Moines, Iowa. Freshman Vanessa Houston (200 meters) will compete in the USA Junior Championships, also in Des Moines that week.
