STANFORD, Calif. --- The UC Irvine women's cross country team turned in a strong performance Saturday with a third-place finish in the 34th annual Stanford University Invitational at the Stanford Golf Course.

Stanford, the top-ranked team in the nation, won the 28-school competition with 27 points, NCAA Division II power Adams State was second with 78 and UCI scored 133.

Arianna Lambie of Stanford won the 6,000-meter race with a time of 19:48.

UCI junior Laura Olvera placed third of 241 runners in 20:42 and Candice Proctor finished sixth in 20:54.

The Anteaters' Samantha Costantini was 28th in 21:49, Sara Mickelson finished 34th (21:58), Amber Gordon was 72nd (22:37), Erinn Kim 76th (22:44) and Kendall Bruton 78th (22:46).

The host Cardinal also won the men's meet with 37 points as UCI placed 17th in the 32-school competition with 452 points.

Scott Bauhs, an unattached runner, won the 8,000-meter race in 23:07. UCI senior Sky Johnston finished 45th of 312 runners in 25:05, Colin Hacker was 48th (25:10) and Rusty Whisman placed 148th in 26:12.


 

 

Rounding out the Anteaters' top seven were Bryan Lopez in 174th place (26:32), Brian Brierly 178th (26:33), George Morris 192nd (26:42), and Andy Burich 199th (26:46).

Both UCI teams compete in the UCSD Triton Classic in La Jolla Saturday.
