MALIBU, Calif. --- The UC Irvine men's cross country team, with three runners placing in the top nine spots, won the title of the Pepperdine Invitational at Alumni Park in Malibu Saturday.

UCI and Drake each finished with 45 points but the Anteaters received the tie-breaker which is awarded to the team that has a better finish by its No. 6 runner. Fresno State was third with 46 points.

Senior Bryan Lopez led the Anteaters with a third-place finish of 25:19.94 over the 8,000-meter course. Sam Hyams was sixth in 25:36.57 and Victor Bonilla ninth in 25:45.47.

Solomon Tesfaye placed 14th (26:03.35), Brett Matejka was 15th (26:05.93), Aman Bhatia 20th (26:20.58) and Andy Burich 25th (27:00.62) to complete the top seven for UCI.

Fresno State's Erick Garcia won the race with a time of 24:45.19.
