UC Irvine Women's Team Finishes 4th at Chile Pepper Festival

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --- The UC Irvine women's cross country team finished fourth of 41 teams Saturday in the Chile Pepper Festival at Fayetteville, Ark. Twenty-fourth ranked Texas Tech won the meet with 83 points, No. 5 Arkansas was second with 87, No. 19 Virginia Tech third with 130 and UCI had 195 points. Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech won the 6,000-meter race with a time of 19:49.2 at the Agri Park course. UCI junior Laura Olvera finished ninth with a time of 21:13.0 in the field of 322 runners. Candice Proctor was 16th in 21:30.8 and Samantha Costantini 42nd in 22:03.6. Rounding out the Anteaters' top seven were Sara Mickelson in 46th place (22:11.1), Lauren Chramosta 99th (23:05.1), Amber Gordon 112th (23:19.9) and Kendall Bruton 114th (23:21.3). The Anteater men's squad finished 14th with 442 points in the 32-team field. Ninth-ranked Arkansas was first with 47 points, Abilene Christian second (74) and Virginia Tech third (162). Shadrack Songok from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won the 10,000 meter race in 29:22.1. Anteater senior Sky Johnston placed 45th with a time of 31:46.8, Nick Mosey was 81st (32:25.8) and Colin Hacker 103rd (32:51.2). Rusty Whisman came in 130th in 33:26.9, Victor Bonilla was 143rd (33:40.3), Bryan Lopez 144th (33:41.9) and Adrian Doty 167th (34:26.9).
