UC Irvine Men 18th, Women 21st at NCAA West Regional
Nov. 14, 2009 Men's Results / Women's Results SPRINGFIELD, Ore. --- The UC Irvine men's cross country team finished 18th and the women's squad 21st at the NCAA West Regional Saturday in Springfield, Ore. Stanford won the men's title with 27 points, Portland was second with 84 and Oregon third with 109. UCI totaled 499 points in the meet at the Springfield Country Club. Stanford's Chris Derrick was the individual champion with a time of 30:38.84 over the 10,000-meter course. UCI's Brett Matejka placed 86th in 32:54.48, Rex Nelson was 91st (32:57.90), Sam Hyams 93rd (32:58.80) and Victor Bonilla 109th (33:24.20). Barrett Tilley in 137th place (34:03.89), Austin Williams 157th (34:39.30) and Andy Burich 172nd (35:35.27) rounded out UCI's lineup. Washington captured the women's championship with 25 points, Oregon was second with 66 and Stanford third with 94. UCI scored 581 points. Kendra Schaaf of Washington won the 6,000-meter race in 20:41.70. Redshirt freshman Chloe Fata led UCI with a 76th-place finish of 22:39.04. Melissa Mead was 103rd (23:00.14), Shelby Pock 117th (23:12.11) and Katherine Nielsen 159th (24:12.37).
Shelley Foerster placed 163rd in 24:18.44, Nicole Mendoza was 167th in 24:25.14 and Carlotta Pham 170th in 24:33.91 to complete the Anteaters' seven runners. |
