SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. --- The UC Irvine men's and women's cross country teams each finished third in the Big West Conference Championships at San Luis Obispo Saturday.

UC Santa Barbara placed seven runners in the top 10 to win the women's competition with 26 points, Long Beach State was second with 72 and defending champion UCI placed third with 75 points.

UCSB's Lauren Christman won the individual title with a time 21:07.5 over 6,000 meters at Fairbanks Memorial Course at Cuesta College. UCI sophomore Laura Olvera placed second in 21:23.9 and junior Sara Mickelson was third in 21:30.9 to earn all-conference honors.

Other Anteater finishes included Marie Nguyen in 12th (22:54.5), Emily Romo 29th (23:53.9), Megan Fairley 31st (24:07.5), Samantha Costantini 33rd (24:18.8), Amber Gordon 42nd (24:46.8) and Elaine Gillespie 45th (24:57.9).

Cal Poly won its fourth straight men's title with 29 points, UCSB was second with 33 and UCI third with 106. Phillip Reid of Cal Poly won the individual title in a time of 25:45.6 over 8,000 meters.

UCI senior Ricky Barnes finished sixth in 26:16.1 to gain all-conference distinction. Nick Mosey of UCI finished 13th in 26:55.1, Sky Johnston was 30th (27:48.3), Matt Grilli 34th (28:03.0), John Kluve 35th (28:11.4), Russell Bush 38th (28:19.1), Tom Whelan 39th (28:20.2), Tim Hearst 41st (28:28.9) and Kareem Barghouti was 50th in 30:05.0.

The UCI teams compete at the NCAA West Regional in Portland, Ore., Nov. 11.
