Saturday's Asics/UC Irvine Invitational Moved to Anteater Recreation Center
Sept. 4, 2007
IRVINE, Calif. --- Saturday's (Sept.8) Asics / UC Irvine Invitational has been moved on-campus to the Anteater Recreation Center (ARC) Fields due to a scheduling conflict at Central Park in Huntington Beach. The women's race begins at 9:00 a.m. with the men's competition starting at 9:45 a.m. Coach Vince O'Boyle's UCI women's team has been picked second in the Big West coaches' preseason poll. The Anteaters are led by junior Laura Olvera, last year's conference runner-up who finished 83rd at the NCAA Championships. Senior Sara Mickelson was third in the Big West meet a year ago as she and Olvera were both named to the All-West Region team in 2006. Also back for UCI is senior Marie Nguyen, who finished 12th in last season's Big West meet and junior Candice Proctor, who was a redshirt last year after finishing 11th in the 2005 conference meet won by UCI. The Anteaters placed third as a team last year. The Anteater men's team was chosen fourth in the Big West preseason poll. Senior Sky Johnston finished 30th at last year's Big West meet and O'Boyle pointed to sophomore Colin Hacker and junior Rusty Whisman as other runners to watch this fall. UCI finished third in the conference meet a year ago. O'Boyle is in his 26th season as head coach of the UCI men's and women's programs.
