UC Irvine Competes at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational Saturday

The UC Irvine men's and women's cross country teams return to action this Saturday (Oct. 3) at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
The men's 8,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. with the women's 6,000 meters following at 8:15 a.m.
NELSON, MEAD LEAD UCI AT STANFORD: Rex Nelson and Melissa Mead were the top finishers for UCI at last Saturday's 36th Stanford Invitational.
Nelson finished 42nd of 169 runners with a time of 25:19 over 8,000 meters as the Anteater men's team finished 10th of 18 teams with 294 points.
Stanford, which claimed the first five spots in the race, won the meet with 15 points. California was second with 101 and UC Davis third with 102. Stanford's Chris Derrick was the individual champion in 23:54.
UCI's Victor Bonilla placed 61st in 25:40, Brett Matejka was 66th in 25:43 and Andy Burich 80th in 26:55. Rounding out the Anteaters' top seven were Barrett Tilley in 93rd place (26:05), Sam Hyams 98th (26:10) and Austin Williams 107th (26:19).
Mead placed 63rd of 179 runners with a time of 22:31 over 6,000 meters as the UCI women's squad finished 14th of 22 teams with 351 points. Teammate Chloe Fata followed in 64th place (22:32).
Stanford won the team title with 24 points, California was second with 100 and Loyola Marymount third with 143. Tara Erdmann, an unattached runner, won the race in 20:20.
UCI's Carlotta Pham was 77th in 22:51 and Nicole Mendoza was 89th in 23:08. Completing the Anteaters' top seven were Shelley Foerster in 105th place (23:24), Shelby Pock 128th (23:47) and Maggie Newton-Neal 146th (24:12).
