Laura Olvera Named Big West Athlete of Week

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine junior Laura Olvera (Whittier HS) has been named Big West Conference co-Athlete of the Week in women's cross country after a strong performance at the Stanford Invitational last Saturday. Olvera finished third of 241 runners at Stanford with a time of 20:42 over 6,000 meters to help the Anteaters to a third-place finish in the 28-team field. This is the fourth time in her career that Olvera has earned the honor. She also won the award in September. She shared this week's honor with UC Santa Barbara's Bethany Nickless. The UCI men's and women's teams compete Saturday (Oct. 6) at the UCSD Triton Classic in La Jolla. The women's 6,000-meter race begins at 8:30 a.m. with the men's 10,000 meters at 9:30 a.m. on the campus of UC San Diego.
