UC Irvine Competes at Cal Poly Invitational Saturday

The UC Irvine men's and women's cross country teams travel to San Luis Obispo Saturday (Oct. 17) to compete in the Cal Poly Invitational.

The women's 5,000-meter race begins at 9:00 a.m. with the men's 8,000 meters at 9:30 a.m. on the Fairbanks Memorial Course at Cuesta College.

LAST SATURDAY: The UCI women's team finished second at last Saturday's UCSD Triton Classic while the men's team was idle from competition.

Central Arizona won the team title with 58 points, followed by UCI with 68 and the University of Victoria with 78 in the 13-school field.

UCI redshirt freshman Melissa Mead placed fifth of 122 runners with a time of 22:30.9 over the 6,000-meter course as Central Arizona's Rose Tanui won the race in 21:38.0.

UCI's Shelby Pock was 11th (22:52.9), Chloe Fata 12th (22:56.4) and Nicole Mendoza 14th (23:08.1).

Katherine Nielsen finished 28th in 23:48.3, Shelley Foerster was 29th (23:49.7) and Carlotta Pham 31st (23:52.8) to complete the Anteaters' top seven.
