UC Irvine Competes at Big West Championships Saturday
Oct. 29, 2008 IRVINE, Calif. --- Coach Vince O'Boyle's UC Irvine cross country teams compete in the Big West Conference Championships Saturday (Nov. 1) at UC Riverside. The women's 6,000-meter race begins at 8:30 a.m. with the men's 8,000 meters at 9:30 a.m. at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course The UCI women's team finished third at last year's conference meet. Laura Olvera and Candice Chavez, seniors on this year's team, placed third and 10th, respectively last season to earn all-conference honors. Senior Samantha Costantini just missed all-league distinction with an 11th-place finish. The Anteater men finished fifth as senior Nick Mosey led UCI with a 19th-place showing. There is a charge to attend this Saturday's meet. Admission is $5 per person, $3 to youths under the age of 18 and free to children under the age of five. In addition, admission to the event will be free to all students from Big West Conference institutions with valid ID. DIRECTIONS TO THE COURSE: Take the 91 freeway east to the 60/215 Fwy. (to Indio) South. Take the University Avenue exit and turn right (west) onto University Avenue. Proceed to Iowa Street and turn left (south). Continue to Martin Luther King Street and turn left (east) onto Martin Luther King. Proceed to Canyon Crest Drive and turn right (south). Take Canyon Crest Drive one-half mile to the Agricultural Operations gate. Here is the lineup for UCI Saturday (with last year's result where applicable): WOMEN
