WACO, Tex. --- A five run eighth inning by Baylor proved to be too much for the Anteaters who fell 6-1 Saturday at Baylor Ballpark.

A leadoff double by Nathan Orf in the first off UCI starter Andrew Thurman, was cashed in by Logan Vick's two-out single to right but UCI answered in the third. Ronnie Shaeffer, aboard on a fielder's choice with one out in the inning, took second on a four-pitch walk issued to Taylor Sparks. D.J. Crumlich loaded the bases with a clean single through the left side and Christian Ramirez would drive in the tying run on a sacrifice fly to center.

After facing seven batters in the first inning, Thurman settled down and held Baylor scoreless for the remainder of his five-inning stint, leaving the game tied at 1-1.

Baylor took the lead in the eighth. After opening the inning with a pair of base on balls, a bunt attempt was fielded cleanly by Jimmy Litchfield but the throw to first was not in time, loading the bases with no outs. Pinch hitter Joey Hainsfurther was issued the third walk of the inning to push across the go-ahead run and an error on a fly-ball to left allowed another run to score, giving the Bears a 3-1 lead. Lawton Langford put the game out of reach with a two-run single up the middle and Orf followed with an RBI hit before Mitch Merten would retire the final two batters.

Litchfield took the loss, falling to 0-1 after giving up five runs on three hits in two innings. Merten gave up two hits in an inning of work. Connor Spencer and Crumlich had two hits apiece.

Crayton Bare pitched 1.1 hitless innings against UCI to earn the win (1-0). Vick paced the offense with three hits.

UCI concludes the weekend against Lamar Sunday at 9:00 a.m. (PT).
