IRVINE, Calif. --- Andrew Thurman dealt a one-hit complete-game shutout as the Anteaters handed CSU Bakersfield a 7-0 loss Friday at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark. The complete game was the fourth of the year for the right-hander, who struck out six and improved to 8-2 on the year.
The no-hit bid was taken out of the equation in the second inning as Tyler Shryock hit a two-out triple. Dylan Christensen worked a base on balls to extend the inning but Thurman kept the Roadrunners off the board, inducing a fly-ball out to left. That would be all as CSU Bakersfield was held hitless the rest of the way as Thurman faced four over the minimum.
The Anteaters gave Thurman plenty of run support. A clutch, two-out single up the middle by Dillon Moyer drove in Christian Ramirez to put UCI on the board in the second inning. The Anteaters added three runs in the third, loading the bases for Jerry McClanahan, who stroked a two-run single up the middle to highlight the inning.
UCI tacked on three more runs in the seventh. D.J. Crumlich led off the frame with a clean hit through the left side and came around to score on Jordan Fox's double to right. Consecutive wild pitches allowed Fox to plate a run and Ramirez delivered with a long fly-ball out to right to drive in Tommy Reyes from third.
Starter Austin Davis gave up six runs on eight hits in six innings to fall to 0-1.
Crumlich paced the 'Eaters with two hits while McClanahan led the team with a pair of RBI on one hit.
