Whitehouse Grounds Pilots In Complete-Game Win

IRVINE, Calif. --- Matt Whitehouse pitched a complete game in a stellar outing and No. 21 UC Irvine scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to come from behind as the Anteaters swept the double-header Saturday at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark.

In the opening game of the twin billing, it was all Whitehouse, as the junior went the distance in a one-run complete-game victory to improve to 2-0. Whitehouse faced the minimum through the first four innings before giving up a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the fifth. The lefty went on to limit Portland to three hits while striking out five and walking one.

UCI gave Whitehouse all the offense he would need in the third. Jordan Morrison drew a leadoff walk and took second on a pop-up single to right from Jeff Stephens. Dominique Taylor belted a two-run triple to the center and would later come around to score on an RBI hit from Ronnie Shaeffer.

Taylor drove in two runs on one hit while Shaeffer added an RBI on two hits.
