IRVINE, Calif. --- The series decider came down to Andrew Morales and the junior delivered with a career-high 7.2 innings in a 2-0 shutout of Nebraska Sunday at Anteater Ballpark.
Morales collected his sixth win after limiting the Huskers to four hits while striking out a career-high six batters and walking two. The right-hander faced a first and third, two-out situation in the second inning but the Anteaters cut down Pat Kelly at home to snuff out a double-steal attempt to end the inning. Following that play, only one Husker runner reached third against Morales.
Dominique Taylor provided the offense, batting 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. The center-fielder doubled in Kris Paulino in the bottom of the third, driving in the eventual game-winning run. In the fifth, Taylor factored in the scoring a second time. After singling to right and stealing second, Taylor took third on a grounder to first by Ryan Cooper. With Connor Spencer at the plate, catcher Tanner Lubach's throw back to pitcher Brandon Pierce went over the right-hander's head and Taylor alertly ran home and scored, beating the throw from Kelly.
Pierce fell to 1-3 after giving up two runs on six hits in 4.2 innings.
