STOCKTON, Calif. --- After scoring a 13 runs in a loss yesterday, No. 21 UC Irvine managed just one in the series finale but starter Andrew Morales made it stand in a 1-0 win Sunday against Pacific.
Morales scattered seven hits and faced runners in scoring position four times. However, the junior right-hander kept the Tigers off the board and climbed to an impressive 9-0 after striking out eight, one shy of his career-high. Morales, who pitched a career-high 8.1 innings, extended his scoreless streak to 22.2 innings before handing the ball off to Race Parmenter with one out in the ninth. Parmenter struck out both Gio Brusa and Tyger Pederson on four pitches each to earn his seventh save.
The lone run came in the third for the 'Eaters. Mikey Duarte was hit by the pitch by starter Jake Jenkins and would take second on the sacrifice bunt from Justin Castro. Chris Rabago dribbled a ball up the third base line to move Duarte to third on the groundout and Dominique Taylor hit a clutch single through the left side to plate Duarte.
Jenkins held the Anteaters to four hits in the eight-inning effort. The right-hander making just his fourth start of the year, allowed a run while fanning four and fell to 0-5 with the hard-luck loss.
