Morales Strikes Out Career-High As Anteaters Grab Series From No. 22 Cal Poly
IRVINE, Calif. --- Andrew Morales and the Anteaters put together a complete game to capture the series win against Cal Poly with an 11-1 victory Sunday at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark.
Morales won his 10th game in commanding fashion. The right-hander struck out a career-high 10 batters in seven shutout innings, holding the Mustangs to four hits and walking one. He struck out seven of the 10 in the first three innings and fanned the side in the fourth. After yielding a one-out single and a walk in the fifth, Morales set down eight straight batters to end his outing.
The Anteaters struck early and scored all 11 runs in the first four innings.
Grant Palmer answered the call for UCI in the second, belting a double to left-centerfield to drive in Kris Paulino from first. Palmer would come around to score on Taylor's RBI single and Spencer and Taylor Sparks followed with back-to-back run-scoring doubles, extending the Anteater lead to 6-0.
Jeff Stephens reached safely in the third with a walk. He then stole second and took third on a wild pitch before scoring on Rabago's single to center.
Spencer was 3 for 5 with three RBI while Sparks drove in a run on three hits. Taylor also had multiple hits, batting 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Granger fell to 5-4 after giving up four runs on three hits in 1.2 innings.
