UCI Drops Second Game of Doubleheader in Seattle, 8-2

BELLEVUE, Wash. --- UC Irvine was battered by a steady flow of Seattle U runs falling in the second game of a doubleheader, 8-2, Sunday afternoon at Bannerwood Park.

Seattle (7-11) got things rocking in the first inning as a two-out, two-run double from Chase Wells put SU up 2-0 after one.

UCI (11-6) cut the deficit in half as Keston Hiura doubled and later scored on a groundout from Adam Alcantara in the fourth.

The Redhawks built their lead back up scoring twice in the fourth on less-than-perfect defense on the Anteater side, and continued the run in the fifth to make a 6-1 lead for starter Janson Junk.

Junk had all he needed allowing just two earned runs over 6.2 innings, and was pushed along by 2.1 scoreless innings from Tyler Oldenberg to allow Seattle U to coast to the 8-2 victory.

Austin Lively rattled off four hits scoring twice and driving in two to pace the offense. Chase Wells added three hits of its own and a pair of RBI.

The 'Eaters got contributions from multiple players, but managed only two hits. Cole Spear was the hard-luck loser giving up four runs in four innings.

UCI comes away from Seattle playing two of the three scheduled games and splitting the doubleheader on Sunday. The Anteaters return home to play four straight games starting Tuesday, March 21, at 6:30 p.m. as it hosts USC.
