IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine completed the sweep against Nevada with a 7-1 win over the Wolf Pack Sunday at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark.
Brian Hernandez paced the (3-0) offense with three RBI on 2 for 4 hitting and added 2/3 innings on the mound in his first pitching appearance for the Anteaters. Drew Hillman drove in two runs on two hits and Sean Madigan posted a team-high three hits. UCI took a 3-0 lead in the first after Hernandez doubled in D.J. Crumlich, who was walked to lead off the inning, and Fox who doubled down the left-field line. Jordan Leyland continued the inning with a single up the middle and Hillman's sacrifice to right would plate Hernandez.
The Anteaters scored again in the third as Hillman belted a double to capitalize on Hernandez's lead-off double for the 4-0 lead.
Three consecutive singles in the fifth set the scene for UCI's Christian Ramirez, who laid down a one-out sacrifice bunt to drive in Leyland from third.
Nevada avoided the shutout with a run in the seventh and UCI tacked on a pair of runs in the eighth to cap the scoring.
Nevada's Mark Joukoff (0-1) pitched four innings and gave up five runs on nine hits.
