Box Score

IRVINE, Calif. --- UCI starter Christian Bergman pitched seven scoreless innings and Crosby Slaught and Eric Pettis combined for two shutout innings as the Anteaters swept San Francisco, 6-0, Sunday at Anteater Ballpark. With the win UCI extended its shutout streak to 27 innings, marking the first time in school history that the Anteaters have recorded three consecutive shutouts. The victory also lifted the team to 7-0 overall for UCI's best start.

Bergman earned his first win of the season (1-0) after striking out three and walking one while scattering five hits. The Anteater offense was led by Ryan Fisher and Jeff Cusick, who drove in two runs each. Ollie Linton was 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored.

UCI jumped on starter Brian Anderson (1-1), scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Ben Orloff led the frame with a four-pitch walk, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Ryan Lipkin. Linton pushed Orloff across the plate with a single and scored on Fisher's RBI hit up the middle.

The Anteaters added two runs in the second on Fisher's single to right to score Tyler Hoechlin and a groundout by Cusick that brought in Orloff. Cusick recorded his second RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

The Dons put runners on first and second with one out in the first but Bergman induced an inning-ending double-play groundball to second. USF would not put another runner in scoring position until Mitchell Bialosky's two-out double in the ninth. Designated hitter Matt Lieb's drove a ball up the middle that caromed off Pettis and Lowenstein recorded the out at first to end the game. Bialosky and Bobby Ethel totaled two hits each.

Anderson pitched two innings, giving up five runs on six hits while Matt Lujan allowed a run on two hits in 3.1 innings in relief.

The Anteaters host San Diego Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
